How To Activate Our Alpha Waves

How to activate our Alpha waves

The electrical signals our brains send out and travel through our neurons are also known as brain waves. There are four types of brain waves (Alpha, Beta, Theta and Delta). These electrical signals that flow through our neurons are meant to perform certain functions. Thanks to so-called electroencephalograms, also called EEG devices, scientists have been able to study in detail the effect that these brain waves have on us.

How are these four brain waves produced?

  • Alpha waves. These are the brain waves of relaxation. These are the waves that are activated just before we fall asleep, when we rest, spend an afternoon in the sun on the beach or when we just step into a nice warm bath.
  • Beta waves. These kinds of brain waves are the exact opposite of Alpha waves. These are the fastest waves and are produced when we are working at a moderate pace, when we are stressed, when we hear a loud noise or when we are studying. Beta waves indicate that intense activity is taking place in the brain. For example, people who often suffer from anxiety produce a lot of beta waves.
  • Theta waves. These kinds of brain waves are responsible for the feeling that you have ‘your head in the clouds’ or that you are floating. Theta waves also produce a sense of relaxation and allow creative ideas to flow. They put us in a sleepy state.
  • Delta waves. These brain waves are produced while you are deeply asleep.

These four types of brainwaves are actually always present, although one type may be stronger than the other at any given time.

Some studies show that we ourselves can contribute to the generation of Alpha waves, the brain waves that produce relaxation. Nowadays we all experience a lot of stress and we are often overwhelmed by nervousness, noisy big cities, constant distractions etc., so it can be very useful to know that with a few simple actions you can make your brain produce more Alpha waves, the waves of relaxation.

Alpha waves help us not only to relax, but also to focus, to see certain goals more clearly. These waves calm us and make us experience less anxiety. They improve our memory, help us lose weight and quit smoking and can strengthen our immune system.

That is why we share below a list of things you can do to activate the Alpha waves in your brain:

  1. Count down slowly from one hundred to zero.
  2. Sit or lie on your bed, close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Take a deep breath in and out.
  3. Listen to relaxing music. Even when you’re working, try to push the Beta waves in your brain into the background by bringing the Alpha waves to the foreground with relaxing music.

And what is the Silva method? The Silva method is a method developed by Jose Silva with the aim of improving your IQ by putting yourself in a deep state of relaxation and thus producing more alpha waves. There are several scientific studies that support this method.

There are several music videos on YouTube that are intended to help your brain produce more alpha waves. Check them out for yourself. Does this music help you activate your Alpha waves?
