An unknown ancient Greek philosopher once said, “Laugh at life and life will smile at you.” Sometimes smiling is the best way to make a difference in the world. When you use your smile, it shows that you are willing to be flexible and strong in the most difficult situations in life.

Someone with a smile on their face, who is optimistic and happy, is less likely to get sick and lives longer. Emotionally stable people who are positive, hopeful, strong, happy and full of life and understanding enjoy better health.

A person with a superficial lifestyle does not smile at life, nor is he intelligent. In fact,  optimists are better at solving problems than pessimists who choose to ignore or avoid the problem. In this case, we are talking about a smile as something that serves as a buffer against many complicated situations.

Smiling, like laughing out loud (the nature of which is essentially psychological), is a characteristic that is specific to humans. This behavior affects the entire human capacity to act, even physiological aspect. Therefore, the use of a smile is a real therapeutic practice based on numerous studies and clinical results.

Humor and the use of a smile are beneficial for the body and, more importantly, for our psychological well-being. Some of the advantages we can mention are:

  • It teaches people to be more humble.
  • It helps others to respond more relaxed to exaggerated individualism.
  • Laughter helps to eliminate the fear of being ridiculed.
  • It helps to make life relative by considering different perspectives that make existence more complicated.
  • It makes it easier to look for solutions to everyday problems.
  • Laughter promotes your ability to adapt to change.
  • It reduces the feeling of frustration we experience when we become aware of our own limitations.
  • It allows us to defend ourselves against criticism or offensive behavior that affects our emotional balance.
  • Laughter helps to avoid conflict, it acts as a cushion in negative situations.

Life is like a mirror, the result gets better when we smile

Sometimes joy is the source of our laughter. But at times when we feel bad, a smile can actually help improve our mood. We often underestimate the power of small gestures such as a caress, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear or an honest compliment that can potentially change a life.

Think how much better this world would be if you used your smile more often. There’s no need to talk, you don’t have to agree with anything. All you have to do is smile! A smile breaks barriers, relieves tension and is the first step to making a new friend.

Laughter makes us feel better about ourselves, even when we don’t feel like it. If the sun is there for the flowers, there is a smile for humanity. For all this and much more, try to smile as often as possible. It’s a free form of therapy.

Laughter is one of the most powerful, if not the only, remedy for negative moods. So, the next time you’re grumpy or feel like everything is going wrong, why not use your smile to face the world? The worst that could happen is that it won’t change how you feel, but its potential benefits are almost unimaginable.

So, if you think you need it, use your smile like it’s your best weapon, because maybe it is.
