I Like Myself More Than Ten Years Ago

I like myself more than ten years ago

I recently read an article about fashion and how major advertising agencies run campaigns with mature women. As I read this article, I realized that, like those women, I love myself more now than I did ten years ago. The passage of time has made me look at beauty differently. I feel even more attractive than when I was in my twenties. I like myself better than before.

What happens to women after they turn 40? According to Care Santos in her book Longing for Chocolate , their qualities become more concentrated. This makes them more intense, more intelligent, more peaceful and more attractive than twenty years before. Not only on a mental level, but also on a physical level.

In fact, as time goes by, as women, we know better how to choose things that are good for our bodies. We also learn how to wear the best accessory of all: confidence. We don’t allow ourselves to worry too much about the wrinkles that appear. Instead, we enjoy all the excellent parts of ourselves.

Adult models that reflect on aging

Today, several Spanish brands such as Desigual, Mango or Zara have fashion magazines managed by models between the ages of 40 and 53. This has significantly increased the visibility of women who until recently seemed forgotten by fashion and society.

In Zara’s magazine,  Timeless, the models explain what aging means to them. They also discuss how they feel about reaching an age that makes it difficult to be successful in the fashion world. That’s because this particular sector is increasingly targeting 20-year-old women.

Like I said before, I like myself more than I did ten years ago. Just like those models. Of course it would be great not to grow old. But if you do it right, your brain will only get better with age. Therefore, we have a paradox in our hands. As we get older, we also feel more confident. As Malgosia Bela, a 40-year-old Polish actress and model points out, you can like yourself more as you get older.

On the other hand, 41-year-old Somali model, Yarmin Warsame, also talks about this phenomenon. She tells how her prejudices changed as she got to know other cultures. She described it this way: “Travel, just travel. You transform, you change. That’s why I always say to everyone: please, travel. Experience people in different environments, in different atmospheres and in different situations.”

These testimonials invite us to reflect on the impact aging has on women who are older than average in the fashion world.

I like myself more than I used to, because getting older comes with more self-confidence

The confidence we gain as we get older is one of the things that makes us like ourselves more. As we get older, we begin to appreciate beauty from a different perspective. We learn to appreciate looks, gestures and attitudes that indicate self-confidence. These features create beauty.

Women can be attractive at any age. The key is to accept that you are getting older and to shake off that intrinsic fear of aging.

With their gray hair and wrinkles, the models who participate in this type of campaign are the faces of social change. They draw attention to a group of women who have so far not been well represented by the industry. So it’s about time we all learned to feel attractive without having to resort to Botox or skin rejuvenation treatments. Instead, let the beauty of your authenticity and ability to be yourself shine through.

I like myself better than ten years ago, do you?
